There are so many great opportunities for youth to get involved with STEM and STEAM. We are working to collect those resources and organize them on this page.  If you are looking for opportunities to fund STEM projects in your program, check out the list of funding opportunities!


FLEET is a web-based science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) competition that is free to U.S. students in grades nine through twelve. FLEET utilizes the youth friendly model of gamification to engage high school students in naval ship design and enables them to apply the real-life applications of STEM. Working individually, students compete via a web-based platform to complete several scenarios faced by naval engineers on a daily basis in the field. The entire competition occurs online. Exceptional student performers will be invited to a capstone event for an onsite competition to be held in May or June 2018. More details to follow! 

Teach Online Safety with Be Internet Awesome 

As classroom technology usage increases, it’s important for students to be prepared to make smart decisions online. Developed in collaboration with online safety experts, Be Internet Awesome teaches the fundamentals of digital citizenship and safety so students can explore the online world with confidence. In addition to a robust curriculum for teachers, the program includes Interland, an adventure-packed online game that puts these critical lessons into hands-on practice. Access resources at


Idaho National Laboratory K-12 STEM Initiative

Idaho National Laboratory provides opportunities for students as well as educators, including informal educators. Check here to see a list of opportunities. Go here to read an online book about STEM careers at INL. This book can be used to introduce students to STEM careers.


STEMfinity offers help writing STEM grants as well as providing free STEM resources. They also have a ton of great STEM kits for sale. If you are in the Boise area, stop by their education center and try out their products. This is a great resource!

Idaho STEM Action Center 

The Idaho STEM Action Center is a resource for Idaho's formal & informal educators, parents, and youth. Find STEM events and competitions near you, attend professional development opportunities, apply for grants.

Idaho Public Television's Science Trek 

Science Trek is a monthly integrated web and broadcast project designed for elementary-age students. In addition to each show, there are also tons of companion materials. Currently there is content on the website for over 90 different science topics.

PhET Interactive Simulations

PhET provides fun, free, interactive, research-based science and mathematics simulations. We extensively test and evaluate each simulation to ensure educational effectiveness. These tests include student interviews and observation of simulation use in classrooms.

Intel Education

To help educators foster the next generation of innovators, Intel provides STEM curriculum, competitions, and online resources to encourage students’ interest and participation.


The Go-Lab Portal offers school teachers and students the opportunity to conduct inquiry learning activities for scientific problem solving. Inquiry learning is supported by personalized scientific experiments with online labs and supportive inquiry learning apps. Cardboard Challenge

The Global Cardboard Challenge is an annual event presented by the Imagination Foundation that celebrates child creativity and the role communities can play in fostering it. In September, kids of all ages are invited to build anything they can dream up using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination.


Caine's Arcade

Caine’s Arcade is a short film by Nirvan Mullick about a 9 year old boy’s handmade cardboard arcade, located in his dad’s auto parts store in East Los Angeles. The film inspired a global movement to foster creativity in kids, leading to the launch of the Imagination Foundation and an annual Global Cardboard Challenge.

National STEM Video Game Challenge 

The National STEM Video Game Challenge is a multi-year competition whose goal is to motivate interest in STEM learning among America’s youth by tapping into students’ natural passion for playing and making video games.
