Last year, Second Harvest distributed more than 30million pounds of food to a network of 250 neighborhood food banks and meal centers. These partner programs currently feed more than 55,000 people a week in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Second Harvest is able to direct almost 99 percent of all donations, including in-kind gifts, toward collecting, transporting, warehousing and distributing food for people in need. We value all who have joined us in the fight against hunger in the region.

Building on last years success, Boise Code Camp will again be adding a youth track to its traditional selection of community driven technical content. The youth track is a full day of sessions dedicated to the experienced and novice programmer between the ages of 6 and 16.
In past years Boise Code Camp has had a single session presented for kids by kids as young as 6 years old. These sessions were so well received and attended that we were encouraged to expand beyond just a single session. In the last year, millions of kids, many of them in our own community, have learned to code with the Hour of Code and tools like Scratch and Raspberry Pi. Boise Code Camp is representative of our community and the kids in our community are starting to code.
The youth track occurs during Boise Camp Camp at Boise State University in the Student Union Building.
Come for the whole day or just drop in for a session or two.
Like all code camp events, the youth track is FREE but we do ask that you register on the Boise Code Camp web site so we can have an idea of how many attendees to expect.

The Educational Talent Search (ETS) program is designed to assist economically and educationally disadvantaged students. This program supports secondary students through graduation and assists them in enrolling at post-secondary institutions. Typical students are limited income, first generation and college bound, and are in need of assistance to expand their educational opportunities.
Boise State University’s ETS program supports 1500 students (8th through 12th grade) at numerous schools in Ada, Canyon, and Owyhee counties.
ETS educational specialists provide services to students individually and in small groups on a weekly basis. Students receive information to help them become successful in school, graduate and enroll in post-secondary education. Instruction and information include effective study habits, goal setting, enrolling in college-bound classes, career information and interest testing, college admissions, and navigating the financial aid and scholarship process.
Additionally, ETS students are given the opportunity to attend college and career fairs, career workshops, local college tours and participate in the TRIO National Days of Service and the Hispanic Youth Symposium. Juniors and seniors have the opportunity to visit out-of-state colleges and universities as well.

The Boise National Forest offers a Tree Trunk and Wilderness Box to help you teach about forest plants, animals, and management. The wide range of materials in each box appeal to many grade levels. Here's an idea of what these kits contain:
Tree Trunk
Discover subtle differences in cones, leaves and twigs using the samples in the trunk. Tree cross-sections show the inside of a tree; use Project Learning Tree activity (included) to help students analyze annual growth rings. Books and posters provide additional background information for teachers and students. Watch the video The Man Who Planted Trees to hear of one man's ancient kinship with the Earth. Listen to songs about photosynthesis, decomposition, and plant parts sung by the Banana Slug String Band and Billy B. Read Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf aloud to students. Find ideas for lessons in Ranger Rick's Naturescope, The Green Scene Guide, or Project Learning Tree activity samples.
Wilderness Box
The Wilderness Box and the Wilderness and Land Ethic Activity Book were designed to provide an interactive resource to promote awareness and appreciation of wilderness. Watch the Wild By Law video for a 50 minute overview of the wilderness movement leading up to the 1964 Wilderness Act. Use hand puppets to learn about mammals common to many wilderness areas. Compare the skulls of herbivores and carnivores. Practice simple map and compass skills. View photos of pristine areas in Idaho Magnificent Wilderness. Act out the Impact Monster skit or watch the Soft Paths video to show low impact travel. (The resources in this box support the Wilderness and Land Ethic activity book included in the box. However, you do not need to use the activity book to use the resources.)

At the College of Southern Idaho, we know that "one size does not fit all" when it comes to delivering college courses, short term training, and community education and enrichment classes. The four CSI off-campus centers, located in Burley, Gooding, Hailey, and Jerome, provide the primary means of educational outreach for students who reside in the outlying communities that comprise our eight-county service area in South-Central Idaho. CSI off-campus education centers truly offer a "one stop" education support experience for students, regardless of life experience or educational background. Students at the off-campus education centers can access support for advising and registration, financial aid, academic records, bookstore services, and support services. CSI’s off-campus centers offer a wide array of coursework delivered through traditional face-to-face instruction, over CSI’s microwave system, or via the Internet. We invite you to stop by at any of our off-campus education centers and find out what we can do to expand your personal and professional horizons.

Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8 hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk
factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early
intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Mental
Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select
interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
Participants do not learn to
diagnose, nor how to provide any therapy or counseling –
rather, participants learn to support a youth developing signs
and symptoms of a mental illness or in an emotional crisis by
applying a core five-step action plan:
Assess for risk of suicide or harm
Listen nonjudgmentally
Give reassurance and information
Encourage appropriate professional help
Encourage self-help and other support strategies

The Idaho Foodbank is an independent, donor-supported, nonprofit organization founded in 1984, and is the largest food bank and distributor of free food assistance in Idaho. From warehouses in Boise, Lewiston and Pocatello, the Foodbank distributes food for millions of meals each year through a network of over 400 community-based partners across the state.
Programs offered:
Backpack
The Idaho Foodbank’s Backpack program ensures that students who are chronically hungry have access to adequate food over the weekend by providing them with a backpack full of nutritious, kid-friendly food every Friday during the school year.
School Pantry
School Pantries are a natural extension of the Backpack program . If children who receive weekend Backpacks are dealing with food insecurity, it makes sense that their siblings are, too. This program helps provide families with food through a pantry set up inside the school, where access is convenient for both students and family alike.
Picnic in the Park
School’s out for the summer! No more classes, homework, or tests. However, for some students, when school is out, that means no more guaranteed meals.
Mobile Pantry
The Mobile Pantry Program distributes dry and frozen food to underserved, usually rural, communities. This program helps populations that do not have access to, or have difficulty accessing, food assistance.
Health Care
The Idaho Foodbank is now working in collaboration with healthcare partners to make it easier for Idahoans who are food insecure and have health issues to get the food they need to promote better health.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
The USDA purchases a wide selection of products for TEFAP distribution. While the exact products available from year to year may change, the emphasis is always on food choices that promote variety and proper nutrition.

Yellowstone offered its Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program for the 28th consecutive summer in 2017—a month-long residential program for young people between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age.
The YCC experience allows 62 teen enrollees and staff the opportunity to learn, work, and recreate in Yellowstone National Park. The program is challenging, educational, and fun, and offers participants opportunities to expand their horizons while building skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. No previous wilderness experience is required, but a willingness and ability to work in a physically active outdoor program, get along well with others, and maintain a positive attitude are essential for success.
